Why You Shouldn’t Be Cheap When Purchasing Web Hosting
Most people by default want to save money. Their mentality is a save, save, save! This shouldn’t cross over into your web hosting. Especially if your websites are part of your business, or they makeup your business. You want reliable hosting. A host that you can depend on to be up almost 99.9% of the time with little to no down-time at all.
So in an effort to teach you why you should purchase good hosting I’ve compiled a list. The problems listed below are only a fraction of the possible problems you could face when purchasing bad hosting.
Downtime
If your website makes money then why have any downtime? Downtime costs you money and you shouldn’t have to deal with it for more then a few minutes. A dependable web-host will have backup servers just in case another one fails.
Most people don’t think that downtime will effect their traffic; wrong again. Your downtime might mean you losing a valuable client or visitors that would’ve been repeats. Instead, they come to a site that doesn’t have a page up. Why should they ever visit again?
Features
Web host’s usually have a ton of different features available. But when you purchase on the cheap they may either not be available or locked. That could be a problem for you because a script might not work, or you code could need some work.
Lousy Updates
Software changes and they update often. Is you web hosting provider keeping up with the software changes? If not, you need to ditch them. Lack of software updates could spell the end of your website. How would you feel if they missed an update and your website became completely dysfunctional?
Lousy Support
Everyone who purchases hosting will inevitably need some support at one time or another. You want a hosting provider that is going to actually email or IM you back. You don’t want someone sleeping on the job right? Bad hosts are notorious for terrible support. However you can lump some of the bigger hosting providers in with them.
I honestly believe that bad support is a deal breaker for me. If you don’t know about a particular company’s support just read some reviews. Most customers are pretty honest about this. I always use forums to find hosting providers. If you can trust the people on there, you are then more likely to find a reliable web host.
